Contact your elected representatives in Congress:
Phone * Email * Office Visit * Town Halls/Listening Sessions
You have a U.S. Representative in the House and two U.S. Senators in the Senate who represent you. They have staffers who keep track of who calls/emails and comes in to their office, the topics people call about and they tally the opinions about that topic. Contacting your elected officials is a way to put pressure on them to vote the way you’d like on bills and confirmations.
Find your Representative and Senators by entering your address HERE and select Federal Officials.
Go to their website for their phone numbers, office addresses and to send them an email.
To call them, you can phone either their number in Washington DC of one of their local offices. Make sure to give your address when you call so your call will be tallied.
You can find some tips to make your contact with them effective HERE.
Attend their town halls and listening sessions and be prepared to ask questions/ take notes. You can learn more about how to find their town hall or listening session HERE. You can learn more about effectively attending a town hall or listening session HERE.

Letters to the Editor
Writing a letter to the editor is easier than you think. In addition to writing letters to your members of Congress, sending letters to the editor are important because they:
– reach a large audience
– are often monitored by elected officials
– can bring up information not addressed in a news article
– create an impression of widespread support for or opposition to an issue
You can find tips for writing Letters to the Editor HERE.
Here are some media outlets you can send your letters to in Wisconsin:
You can send the same letter to multiple outlets; make sure to pay attention to their requirements like word count and adjust accordingly.
How to Effectively Use Social Media
There are a number of effective ways to use social media:
- Write and/or share posts from reliable news outlets about issues you care about to help raise awareness.
- Write about your experience when you tried to contact your elected official ex: what was your question or “ask”, what kind of response did you get, did you feel satisfied or not with the interaction.
- Make a video or Facebook live after you’ve gone to your member of Congress’ office, talk about why you want and what happened. You can learn more about how to do that HERE. Note: you may be told you are not allowed to film your visit or in your member of Congress’ office.
- Share your member of Congress’ voting record and why you agree/ disagree with their votes. You can find their voting records by searching for their name HERE.
- Share who your member of Congress takes money from (lobbyists) and why you agree/disagree with that. You can find that information by searching for their name HERE.
Organize
Consider getting together with like-minded people and organizing around an issue you can about. Some examples:
- a protest
- a tabling event where you hand out information and educate people in the community about something you care about (get permission from the location where you want to table)
- a strike or boycott
- a speaking event with an expert, either local or other and can be held in someone’s home, in a room at the public library, or contact our Dem office at KenoshaCoDems@gmail.com or call 262-612-0284
- a community clean-up
- a postcard writing session(s) with friends
Run for Office

Across the country, interest in running for public office has been spiking as people realize the importance government plays in their lives. Anger over rights and benefits being stripped away in order to give tax breaks to the wealthy is making people increasingly angry and frustrated. Running for office is one way to channel that anger into positive action.
We provide training, resources and support for candidates looking to run for office. Learn more on our Run for Something page.
