Simple answer: the bailout is to hide the complete failure of the MAGA policies Trump is trying to enact and protects a billionaire hedge fund crony.
HIDING THE FAILURE OF MAGA POLICIES
Trump’s bailout of Argentina helps Trump and his MAGA equivalent, president Javier Milei of Argentina. This bailout is to prevent the American people from realizing the devastating impact of the same MAGA policies Trump is trying to enact in the United States.
It’s important to remember that in Trump’s world, only Trump’s interests count – not America’s. In fact Trump has said bailing Argentina out with U.S. tax dollars will “not make a big difference for our country.” This is truly a case of Trump putting America Last because it serves HIS interests.
Argentina’s Melei has become the poster child for MAGA right-wing economics. And those policies have the country falling apart. They have resulted in widespread suffering for the Argentinian people, unemployment has jumped to a four year high, investors are liquidizing their assets and fleeing the country, and Argentina has all but used up its foreign exchange reserves. In other words, Milei has enacted the same MAGA policies Trump is enacting and its been a disaster. Trump is willing to use U.S. taxpayer dollars to prop up Melei’s economy because he doesn’t want his MAGA base to see what’s in store for the U.S. and what American economists have been warning us about.
Melei’s MAGA policies included enacting severe slashes to government spending, reducing taxes on the wealthy, eliminating their Central Bank, prioritizing private markets, and demonizing economic experts as “political elites” to undermine their disagreement with Melei’s terrible MAGA policies.
HELPING CRONIES
In addition, Trump’s bailouts of Argentina will be a huge gift to a croney of Trump’s Treasury Secretary. Hedge Fund billionaire Rob Citrone, is a personal friend and former colleague of U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. Citrone is still heavily invested in Argentina and didn’t get out when other investors were fleeing. Citrone contacted Besset for a bailout. On Sept. 24th, Besset announced the bailout.
On top of bailing out Argentina with $20 BILLION from U.S. taxpayers (and promising another $20 BILLION more) Trump’s tariffs on China have killed the U.S. soybean market, devastating our farmers. China shifted from buying from U.S. farmers to buying from Argentina because of Trump’s tariffs – and even THAT wasn’t enough to prop up Melei’s failing MAGA economy. And now Trump is looking to bailout out the U.S. farmers who are going under because of Trump’s tariffs.
MAGA IS FURIOUS
And on top of that, Trump is ALSO looking to buy Argentinian beef to help prop up Milei’s MAGA economy, to which right-wing commentator Tomi Lahren posted:
“Why the actual F*CK would we buy Argentinian beef? Our AMERICAN ranchers are getting crushed already by cheap shit foreign beef imports. The meat packers are already under cutting our AMERICAN producers as it is. This is an OUTRAGE.”
FARMERS REACT
Trump’s tariffs have significantly impacted America’s farmers, with bankrupcies and many now operating below the break-even point. Wisconsin is one of the states being most impacted by Trump’s tariffs.
U.S. farmers have responded with fury, “he’s selling us out!” said Christian Lovell, an Illinois cattle farmer and the senior director of programs at Farm Action, a nonpartisan farm organization. Today Trump announced he is going to quadruple the amount of low tariff beef coming into the U.S., further undercutting American farmers.
Even MAGA are starting to realize Trump’s MAGA policies, just like Melei’s, are failing our country.
