The SAVE Act

Mary Hawkins, Kenosha WI

The war on voting rights is ramping up again! The Trump Administration is attacking absentee ballots, drop boxes, early voting, voter eligibility, etc.

The SAVE Act (Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act), promoted by Wisconsin CD1 Representative Bryan Steil, is a controversial legislation supposedly intended to tighten U.S. voting registration requirements. However,  the real intent is to limit voting access for targeted populations, including persons with disabilities, the elderly, those with lower incomes, disaster survivors, and married women.

The United States Constitution specifies that each state will establish and control its election process. Currently, Wisconsin has a well-defined process for gathering needed documentation and storing the data for easy access by election officials. Occasionally, problems do occur, but they are addressed immediately upon discovery. It has been firmly documented and certified that both the 2016 and 2020 elections were without fraud. Our reputation for voting accuracy is a gold standard.  Voter fraud is not in Wisconsin’s vocabulary!

Why are all Wisconsin Republican congresspersons so intent on changing our system? Are they interested in guaranteeing that every eligible voter has access to the voting booth?

Or perhaps, they intend to limit voting access to only their chosen few?

What is being “saved” by the SAVE Act?
