Congressional Republicans have passed what they call the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” but there is nothing beautiful about slashing Medicaid, cutting food assistance, and ballooning the national debt by $3 trillion—all to fund massive tax cuts for the wealthy.
Despite public opposition, this bill takes health insurance from 12 million Americans and food assistance from 3 million more. It punishes people for being poor by requiring excessive paperwork just to keep Medicaid—creating inefficiencies, not eliminating fraud. Meanwhile, cuts to renewable energy incentives will raise electric bills in states like ours, even as demand rises.
Most disturbing is how recklessly this was rushed through. With minimal debate and maximum pressure, Congress ignored the consequences and passed a bill that could trigger a debt crisis, further burden working families, and destabilize essential services. All to serve a political brand, not the public good.
We deserve lawmakers who protect our health and financial future—not ones who treat governing like a game show.
