Mayor Bogdala Flies Kenosha Pride Flag for Pride Month

In a time when hate and violence seem to dominate headlines, its important to ensure messages and symbols of respect and acceptance are even more seen and heard than ever before. More than 500 anti-LGBTQ+ bills were introduced across various state legislatures in 2024. Of these, at least 37 were enacted into law by mid-year.

While County Executive Samantha Kerkman has refused to follow Kenosha County’s tradition of flying the Pride Flag during Pride month (in fact, refused to flying it for even a single day) Kenosha Mayor David Bogdala is flying the Pride Flag at Kenosha Harbor again this month.

This gesture of inclusion comes as the LGBT+ (and other marginalized communities) are seeing their rights eroded:

* their right to the gender-affirming, lifesaving healthcare they need,

* the right to serve in the military;

* their right to equal access to good and services;

* their right to live as they identify.

It comes at a time when the current administration is even stripping their history from public recognition.

Thank you to the city of Kenosha for recognizing the importance of symbols of inclusion and the hope we’ll one day see a society where all are free and accepted.

If you see Mayor Bogdala out in the community this summer, be sure to let him know you appreciate his effort to include the LGBT+ community.
