Thanks to Trump, some Wisconsinites will have to wait longer to receive a COVID-19 vaccination.

It was announced yesterday that Wisconsin will be receiving allotments of Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine. While it's great news Wisconsinites will have access to the Pfizer vaccine, it was also learned yesterday that the Trump Administration declined the chance to buy millions of additional doses of the vaccine, which has shown to be highly effective against COVID-19.

After the Trump Administration passed on the doses, the company committed them to other countries. Pfizer now says it may not have additional doses until next June, meaning some people in Wisconsin will have to wait longer in order to be vaccinated.

Documents released by U.S. regulators Tuesday confirmed that Pfizer ’s vaccine is strongly protective against COVID-19 -- offering the world’s first detailed look at the evidence behind the shots. Too bad some Wisconsinites will have to wait longer for protection thanks to Trump's continued mismanagement of the virus response.

Nearly every country has struggled to contain the coronavirus and made mistakes along the way. China committed the first major failure, silencing doctors who tried to raise alarms about the virus and allowing it to escape from Wuhan. Much of Europe went next, failing to avoid enormous outbreaks. Today, many countries — Japan, Canada, France, Australia and more — are coping with new increases in cases after reopening parts of society. Yet even with all of these problems, one country stands alone, as the only affluent nation to have suffered a severe, sustained outbreak for months on end: the United States.

Over 283,000 Americans have died due to the virus in the past 9 months and 14 million have become infected. In the past week, new daily cases rose 23.9%, COVID-related hospitalizations rose 6.2% and deaths due to COVID have risen by 45.1%. Over 100,000 businesses have shut their doors.

In Wisconsin, over 3700 people have died due to the virus and over 414K have been infected.

And now thanks to the Trump Administrations mismanagement, some Wisconsinites will have to wait longer for protection from the deadly virus and more of our friends and neighbors will die unnecessarily.
