Zach Rodriguez is running a paid ad claiming to be endorsed by both Democrats and Republicans in his campaign for Clerk of Courts.

That isn’t true.

His misleading endorsement ad states: Democratic Party Chair Terry Rose (former) endorses Zach. The word “former” is small like that too.

Terry Rose was chair of the Kenosha Dems 1979 - 1980.

The truth about an endorsement shouldn’t be hidden in fine print. It’s misleading and dishonest. Are those the characteristics you want in your Clerk of Courts?

When Terry Rose led the Kenosha Dems, Pink Floyd’s new album “The Wall” came out. That was also the year of the Three Mile Island Nuclear Accident. The game Trivial Pursuit was brand new that year and so was the Sony Walkman (Look it up, kids - it’s like Apple Music plus your Air Pods, but old school.). Margaret Thatcher was elected Prime Minister of the UK that year too. Zach Rodriguez wouldn’t even be born for over 20 years at that time.

Please don’t misunderstand me. There are plenty of people who I know and respect who were doing important things in 1979 - but they don’t use their old title anymore, and they definitely would not be disingenuous enough to hide it in the fine print of an endorsement.

In 1979, I was 11 years old. I believe that was the year I won a statewide essay contest for a piece I wrote entitled “Christmas Eve at Gramma’s.” Imagine if I ended my emails as Lori Hawkins, Award Winning Writer. Yes, it was true…..when I was 11 years old…..the same year Terry Rose was Chair of the Kenosha County Democratic Party.

Anyway, I’m proud to say that, as the current Kenosha County Democratic Party Chair, I endorse Rebecca Matoska-Mentink for re-election as Kenosha County Clerk of Courts. My endorsement is added to a long list of fellow Democrats as well as Republicans, firefighters, police and many other community leaders that won’t manipulate you with a title they no longer hold.

Becky has been expertly running the Clerk of Court’s office for sixteen years with honesty and integrity, and she should continue to do so, as Kenosha County deserves the best and brightest to lead us. Vote for Rebecca!
